Ancient Sites and Longbarrows
We can schedule a group visit to the Ancient Sites and Longbarrows in and around Oxfordshire, to include:
Waylands Smithy
Dating from around 3460-3400 BC this ancient long barrow was built on top of an earlier burial mound. This second barrow, was built to an elongated trapezoidal shape, fronted by an impressive monumental facade of large upright stones.
The White Horse
The mysterious White Horse is carved into the chalk hillside above the village of Uffington. It was originally thought to be Celtic, or perhaps Iron Age. More recent tests have indicated a date closer to 1000BCE, during the Bronze Age.
Avebury
A World Heritage Site set within an outstanding Neolithic and Bronze age landscape. The stone circles are the only stone circles with a village built within it.
